چکیده

We use linear and quasi-linear perturbation theory to analyse cold dark matter models of structure formation in spatially flat models with a cosmological constant. Both a tilted spectrum of density perturbations and a significant gravitational wave contribution to the microwave anisotropy are allowed as possibilities. We provide normalizations of the models to microwave anisotropies, as given by the four-year COBE observations, and show how all the normalization information for such models, including tilt, can be condensed into a single fitting function which is independent of the value of the Hubble parameter. We then discuss a wide variety of other types of observations. We find that a very wide parameter space is available for these models, provided Ω0 is greater than about 0.3, and that large-scale structure observations show no preference for any particular value of Ω0 in the range 0.3 to 1.

Power Spectra for Cold Dark Matter and its Variants

The bulk of recent cosmological research has focused on the adiabatic cold dark matter model and its simple extensions. Here we present an accurate tting formula that describes the matter transfer functions of all common variants, including mixed dark matter models. The result is a function of wavenumber, time, and six cosmological parameters: the massive neutrino density, number of neutrino sp...

Closed universe and the first Doppler - peak of the CMB spectrum

We study universe models which are intrinsically closed and are full of a quintessence scalar field, besides the Cold Dark Matter component. We use these to depict diverse flat Cold Dark Matter models. With the background geometry specified by the Friedman-Robertson-Walker metric, we include among them the standard Cold Dark Matter, the Cosmological Constant Cold Dark Matter and the Dark Energy...

Dark Matter and Structure Formation

This chapter aims to present an introduction to current research on the nature of the cosmological dark matter and the origin of galaxies and large scale structure within the standard theoretical framework: gravitational collapse of fluctuations as the origin of structure in the expanding universe. General relativistic cosmology is summerized, and the data on the basic cosmological parameters (...

Inflation, Structure Formation and Dark Matter

The formation of structure in the Universe offers some of the most powerful evidence in favour of the existence of dark matter in the Universe. We summarize recent work by ourselves and our collaborators, using linear and quasi-linear theory to probe the allowed parameter space of structure formation models with perturbations based on the inflationary cosmology. Observations used include large ...

Cold + Hot Dark Matter after Super-kamiokande

The recent atmospheric neutrino data from Super-Kamiokande provide strong evidence of neutrino oscillations and therefore of non-zero neutrino mass. These data imply a lower limit on the hot dark matter (i.e., light neutrino) contribution to the cosmological density Ων > ∼ 0.001 — almost as much as that of all the stars in the universe — and permit higher Ων . The “standard” COBE-normalized cri...

Parameter extraction by Planck for a CDM model with broken scale invariance and cosmological constant

We consider a class of spatially flat cold dark matter (CDM) models, with a cosmological constant and a broken-scale-invariant (BSI) steplike primordial spectrum of adiabatic perturbations, previously found to be in very good agreement with observations. Performing a Fisher matrix analysis, we show that in case of a large gravitational waves (GW) contribution some free parameters (defining the ...
